Encounter Finland’s most iconic artists

Let the charm of the golden era impress you, and challenge yourself with intriguing contemporary art.

Orimattila Art Museum may surprise you with its broad-ranging content and top-tier collections. The museum is home to the Päijät-Häme region’s most extensive display of Finnish art from the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, which is supplemented by changing exhibitions.

The art museum was founded in 1978 and is maintained by the City of Orimattila.

Information

The museum is built around the collections of the Ilmari and Toini Wall-Hakala Art Foundation. This historically significant body of artwork provides a cross-section of Finnish art all the way from the 1800s to the 1960s.

The artists represented include Albert Edelfelt, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Pekka Halonen, Helene Schjerfbeck, Maria Wiik, Hugo Simberg and Tove Jansson.

You can also enjoy the thirty-year oeuvre of sculptor Pentti Papinaho, a collection of sculptures by Essi Renvall, and the story of the Orimattila-born Erkko brothers: the journalist Eero Erkko, and the poets J.H. and Rudolf Elias Erkko.

In our changing exhibitions, you will encounter the topical phenomena of contemporary art.

Orimattila Art Museum holds 4–5 changing exhibitions of Finnish contemporary art every year. You can find the exhibition calendar on our website, just click the following link.
